Join Dr. Jessica Ludescher Imanaka for our next virtual workshop, an interactive experience designed to provide a foundation for identifying and addressing ethical challenges in the university context. Participants will explore real-world university ethics cases, including those from their own workplaces, while engaging in hands-on activities to practice problem-solving and develop customized techniques to enhance ethics competencies. Through creative problem solving and reflection, participants will learn to navigate moral dilemmas, appreciate diverse ethical traditions, and devise practical approaches to ethical decision-making. This workshop emphasizes fostering mutual respect and finding novel, effective solutions to ethical issues in the workplace.

 

Speaker: Jessica Ludescher Imanaka, PhD

Jessica is an Associate Professor in the Albers School of Business and Economics at Seattle University, where she holds a joint appointment in Management and Philosophy. At SU, she teaches various Business Ethics courses at the undergraduate and MBA levels, a course on Spiritual Business, and various Honors and Philosophy courses. Jessica’s research has focused on corporate social responsibility, sustainability, environmental justice, biopolitics, philosophy of technology, Buddhist ethics, and Catholic social thought. Her papers have appeared in a range of outlets including: The Harvard International Review, Business and Society Review, The Journal of Management for Global Sustainability, The Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Ethics, Techne: Research in Philosophy and Technology, and the International Journal of E-Business Research. Jessica began working in the field of Business Ethics in 2002, while in graduate school at the University of California, Riverside. Jessica has extensive service commitments at SU, and currently serves on the Advisory Boards for the Center for Business Ethics and the Institute for Catholic Thought and Culture. She is passionate about the Jesuit mission of Seattle University and strives to model good organizational citizenship.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations received by November 26, 2024, will be refunded, less a $25 cancellation fee. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after November 26, 2024. Substitutions can be made at any time. If you have any questions, please contact the office at [email protected].

 

Nonpayment Policy:

I understand that full payment of the web series registration fees is required before the start of the first workshop. If full payment has not been remitted on or before November 26, 2024, the meeting details will not be sent to the attendee. Once payment has been received, meeting details will be released. Technical Failure Policy:

I understand that if there is a technical failure at the registrant's home or workplace that prevents access to the live event, the registrant is not eligible for a refund. It is the responsibility of the registrant to confirm system requirements and test their computers prior to the start of the event. If a technical failure is the fault of the service provider and the session is not able to be broadcast as planned after two hours, WACUBO reserves the right to reschedule the session. If the registrant cannot attend the rescheduled session live, they will be provided with the recording after the session's conclusion, or they may request a prorated refund.

 

Recording Acknowledgement:

I understand that each virtual session may be recorded, including chat transcripts. Video recorded during the event may be used for promotional purposes, advertising, and other print and online materials at the sole discretion of WACUBO. All registered attendees must consent to this if they plan to attend the live sessions.

Course Description:

This interactive workshop will provide a foundation for identifying and addressing ethical challenges in the university context. We will examine university ethics cases, including those experienced by participants in their respective workplaces. Participants will practice working through problems in activities and devising customized techniques for enhancing their ethics competencies in practical application. An appreciation for the diverse traditions that inform ethical outlooks will be emphasized so as to heighten mutual respect when conflicts arise. We will combine creative problem-solving with reflection in practice sessions aimed at finding novel and effective ways of approaching moral quandaries at work.

 

Learning Objectives:

· Understand the scope of ethics-related matters in the university context and the relationship between ethics and compliance

· Recognize ethics challenges and moral dilemmas by discerning relevant stakeholders implicated

· Identify principles and values to guide ethical decision making

· Appreciate diverse ethical traditions that inform decisions

· Practice addressing moral conflicts in the workplace

· Gain awareness of common pitfalls to avoid

· Cultivate creativity, reflection, analysis and empowerment
