A Message from the WACUBO Board

June 5, 2020

Our hearts ache for humankind as we see systemic marginalization and injustices in front view with the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, and countless others. There are legitimate expressions of emotions including anger, frustration, pain, sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion with these traumatic events. Our institutions of higher education have been posting heartfelt messages and WACUBO would like to add our voice to the collective intolerance of racism and injustice. To help on this journey, we ask everyone to remember that it is a moral obligation to listen with both our minds and hearts.

Recognizing that categories of diversity are cultural constructs that are deeply rooted in personal history and experiences, we ask you to reflect on your values and listen deeply as we walk through this critical moment in time. While we watch current events unfold and build awareness, WACUBO reaffirms our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Be well,
WACUBO Board
