Since 1937, The Western Association of College and University Business Officers has offered business officers in the western region opportunities to develop professionally, to identify solutions for issues affecting higher education, and to share their expertise with their colleagues. Our membership includes institutions in 14 western United States, three Canadian Provinces, Mexico and other Pacific Rim nations.
WACUBO is one of four regional associations (Central, Eastern, Southern, Western) making up the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). Headquartered in Washington DC, NACUBO is well known for its informational resources and professional representations of the needs and interests of higher education
WACUBO is pleased to provide several different professional development opportunities. Our workshop offerings are two-day instructor lead courses focused on topical areas appropriate for business officers including budgeting, accounting, LEAN process improvement and treasury functions as example. The Business Management Institute held annually on the UC Santa Barbara campus, provides a week-long extensive curricula for business officers at various stages of their careers through different tracks of study. And, of course, the WACUBO annual meeting provides membership the chance to learn from different concurrent sessions and nationally regarded speakers on a range of topics related to education and best practices. The 2014 annual meeting will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada May 4-7th and promises to build on the success of our recent annual conferences in Portland, Denver and most recently, Anchorage: Put a hold on your calendar now! WACUBO is pleased to offer CPE credits across its entire professional development curriculum.
Beyond our professional development curriculum, we have another exciting professional development opportunity-serving as a volunteer for the organization. I have been fortunate to be involved as a volunteer with WACUBO for over eight years, and the opportunity not only to serve the western region but to engage and learn from my colleagues at all types of institutions from across the west has been a highlight of my career. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit our volunteer engagement webpage which provides detail about getting involved.
