Learning, Connecting, Sharing – these words represent the mission of WACUBO’s 2012 Institutes.

When you walk out of the last course on the last day of a WACUBO Institute, we want you to leave with:

  • a rejuvenated attitude and the energy will need to apply your new learning around best practices and your capacity to deliver on them;
  • a new way of connecting with a network of peers that enhance your career and professional future; and,
  • a sense of the importance of sharing knowledge and experiences to manage today’s institutions in a fiscally-challenged environment.

Whether you immerse yourself in BMI, the complete higher education management institute or ELMI, the senior level leadership and management institute, the tenants of Learning, Connecting and Sharing are the foundation for curriculum content.

BMI, the higher education management institute

Delivered at the University of California at Santa Barbara, BMI is designed to deliver the administrative skills and management concepts needed by individuals who are in the business of higher education.  The multi-track institute has curriculum applicable across professional career levels within college and university business management.

Tracks 1 and 2 are designed for high-potential individuals in the earlier stages of their career.  Tracks 3 and 4 are focused on advanced studies for those who are seeking to increase their knowledge of working across the whole university system.  BMI tracks are not sequential, and you may select the BMI Track appropriate for you.

At BMI, you will benefit from a variety of learning formats including lecture, experiential case studies, panel dialogue, and small group workshops delivered by thought leaders and experienced professionals in the field of higher education.

ELMI, the Executive Leadership & Management Institute

Delivered at the University of Southern California, ELMI is geared to senior level leaders engaged in leadership and management at higher education institutions.  ELMI participants are should be managing others, dealing with complex projects, and engaging in problem-solving and planning for their institution.  During ELMI, they are expected to contribute to their own and others learning through sharing knowledge, demonstrating a willingness to learn new approaches and concepts, and immersing themselves in the ELMI experience.  There will be a variety of learning formats, including field trips to other Southern California institutions.
